Welsh health solution gets green light

The Welsh government has approved £650,000 of funding to develop a new information app for the country’s healthcare professionals

According to a statement, the ‘Consultant Connect’ solution will enable GPs and paramedics to receive specialist advice when treating patients on-scene. The ‘core service’ will give clinicians immediate access to experts in “respiratory medicine, cardiology, diabetes, palliative care and acute medicine for COVID.”

The app - which is being rolled out across Wales - has been fast-tracked in order to help deal with the Coronavirus. The information outlined above will also be available via the use of a special phone number.

Speaking of the solution, health minister Vaughan Gething said: “I am very pleased we are able to start rolling out Consultant Connect in NHS Wales. This will help to support primary care to determine the right treatment for patients.

“It will save crucial time for health care professionals and reduce the amount of hospital visits needed by patients, at a time when our NHS is facing extra pressure. In the long-term, the use of this technology is an important part of our plan for the future of health and social care, A Healthier Wales."
